Stairway to . . .

I was in what could be called the latter portion of my outing Saturday and had talked to Weez via cell phone about how long it might take me to get back to the entrance of the Al Sabo Preserve so she'd know about when to head in that direction. She'd been to the gym, run some errands, visited her mother and I'd spent a few hours getting acquainted with places in the preserve I'd never been to before. There are roughly 25 miles of trails and paths and I was at least a couple of miles from the entrance depending on which meandering route I returned on. I saw this tree with its "accessories" and began to duck and dodge and work my way through the undergrowth and vines to see if I could find a vantage point from which to shoot. Usually, a find like this is surrounded by more obstructions than open space and this was no exception. The irony to me now is that while I was setting up and shooting the photos, I was oblivious to the actual pattern of the fungi. Only when I looked again at the picture moments ago did I recognize the resemblace to an upward climbing spiral stairway. I'm gonna accept that as a nice bit of serendipity considering it will be the capstone photo in this series to honor and recognize my mother. Weez has already made it known that this photo needs to be on one of our walls. I'm just fine with that . . .
