Yes, that's a gorilla. It stands on a small mound in the vicinity of a pond along US-82 between Lubbock and Wichita Falls, Texas. I first saw said gorilla about 2-1/2 years ago on my first drive home from Lubbock and again back in early May on the most recent drive -- both on the way in and the way out. It was on the way home that I stopped to take this photo. How could I not? If you're IN Texas and so inclined, you can see Magilla (or whatever his name is) just about 35 miles east of Lubbock between Ralls and Crosbyton. Here's a link to the location at Google Maps For reasons I'm sure I don't understand, that link will put a marker just in front of what may be the home of the owners. You need to choose the satellite view and then look a little to the left (westerly) and you'll see what looks like a pond one or two hundred yards back toward Lubbock. [edit] I fiddled some more with the Google Map co-ordinates and the marker should now appear on the mound (more or less) where I think the gorilla is poised. [finish edit] That would be his perch. He's on the south side of the road and I'm guessing the horses are there to keep an eye on him . . .
