To be announced ...

I have to admit that ''To be announced'' isn't much of a title for a photo. It's a tree, afterall, so I could call it that and be done with it. I could. I haven't. I'm struggling with the idea of doing a series of trees and if that happens, then this may well be considered the first in a series. Or not. Or something like that. But if I do and if it is, then it may or may not be individually named or indentified in a way that's consistent with the project, which will need to be given its own name or identity for the sake of completeness. As it stands, all of the above is a little bit of much ado about nearly nothing and the most significant fact I can offer is that it was taken last Thursday, the 17th on the morning of our first snow. Most of that snow is gone now and we await the arrival of more later in the week. As a tree, it's not terribly remarkable aside from its placement in an otherwise vacant field and its attraction for me is that it's not surrounded or obscured by any of the trappings of man and his continuing sprawl and development. No power lines or poles in the foreground. No cell phone towers or smokestacks in the background. None of the little details that indicate it's been crowded and pushed and pruned and trimmed to accomodate those of us who arrived long after it began and may well be gone long before it disappears . . . One other little point worth noting is that this image is constructed from 23 separate photos that were subsequently stitched together.
